Meeting the Lee Brothers!

Charlotte folks Heads UP! Matt Lee & Ted Lee are going to be at Park Road Books TONIGHT from 7-8:30 (4139 Park Road). They are on a book tour promoting their new book, "The Lee Bros. Charleston Kitchen". I am lucky enough to work at a Culinary School that had them come as guests on campus today to talk about their history and different anecdotes on writing this new book.
They were a joy to listen to, and they even humored me with my question for each of them: What is their ultimate last meal on earth in Charleston?
Ted: Oysters at Bowen's Island
Matt: Triple Shellfish Tower from Mike Lata's new restaurant, The Ordinary

They were even gracious to sign their new book afterwards. Needless to say, I was SO excited to meet them and will happily display this on my cookbook shelf from now on. The recipes I've read aren't intimidating, which I really appreciate in a cookbook. They are real home cooks and I just know that they have tested each recipe to death!
"To Mariel, We hope our book inspires fond memories of Charleston! Enjoy!"

I'm so looking forward to devouring this when I get home.

Thanks for coming to campus, Matt & Ted!

Wedding updates/Brain Dump

Here's a list of things that will hopefully get done in the next few weeks!

  • Going to my first dress fitting tonight. I'm not sure how that's going to go. Am I supposed to bring my shoes? I feel really unprepared for this...
  • I have been engagement ring-less for 2.5 weeks! It is at the jeweler in NY because they're matching it to my band! Hopefully they will send it soon
The mold is a really plain metal, so that's why it looks so dull. They're doing channel-set diamonds with the mill grain edge to match the vintage look of my ring, in Platinum. It's going to be as thin as they can get it! EEEE I can't WAIT to see it! Connor is going with a plain 5 mm Palladium band that will wear just like Platinum. We are engraving each other's band which will be a surprise until our wedding day. What should I put for his?
  •  My Bridal Shower is next weekend! My sister is putting it together and I can't wait to see my Cville people there! I will be going dress shopping this weekend for it!

Hoping I get lucky at the Lilly store and can find SOMETHING to wear :)

  • We went to Frugal MacDoogal's about a month ago in SC. We got 6 Liter bottles each of Vodka (Smirnoff), Whiskey (Maker's Mark, duh), and Sauza Silver (Tequila). Think that's enough? We also got 6 cases of wine and 2 cases of Champagne, and will pick up beer the week of our wedding so it's fresh!
  • I was in Old Navy the other week returning some Honeymoon dresses I got online....
(Y'all. This dress. So comfy and SUPER flattering! Wore it to St. Patty's!)

AAAaaaaaanyways. I couldn't help but browse in the kid's section. They had a display of Easter dresses all in varying shades of Coral! I purchased 3 of them for Connor's Niece, and ended up returning 2 of them. I'm glad I was able to pick one! How cute are they??
I kept one of the cardigans and the MINI GOLD SANDALS! I mean. I just couldn't pass that up. Now we just need to find her a tiny hat to go along with it!

  • Here is a close-up of the adorable champagne glasses Kristen's friend made. I'm trying to convince her to open an Etsy store...will post that if it happens!

  • Our RSVP's keep rolling in! (Thank you!!) Here's the updated count:
Yes: 97
No: 14
Haven't heard:  79

Our RSVP date was a little on the early side, so hopefully people keep sending in the postcards!
(Our friend Ryan sent in this hilarious one!)
  • Besides shopping for ME this weekend, we need to get Connor's suit! We're going with Navy. Hoping we find one!
  • Also, since the weather isn't going to be great this weekend, I've got some DIY projects to tackle. Namely a very non-wedding related but very important one: House numbers! I'm going to paint them onto the new column Connor's Dad made when he was here.
I hope you have a fabulous weekend! I will hopefully be very productive!

I greatly appreciate you standing by as I check in and out of blogging. I promise to keep you posted on our wedding and married life.

I hope you will join me in toasting Champagne & Mason Jars the only way I know how: Drinking Champagne out of a Mason Jar!

Luck 'o the Irish

Well it was a big weekend! With Connor being out of town, I tried my best to fill my time.

Thursday night I met my girlfriends at Neiman Marcus' launch party of CUSP. It is the new contemporary part of the store. The layout of the store didn't seem different at all, so who knows. It was a lot of fun! They had a fashion show with the latest trends, cocktails, and, of course, lots of shopping! Meredith picked up a FAB DVF dress and Mary got a great striped jacket and an awesome highlighter-yellow top that I could not pull off. It was a great night!
I spent Friday evening with Kristen & Bryan. We got takeout from Deejai Thai (Drunken Noodles are SO good!) and watched NBC's Thursday line-up (Parks & Rec, Office, Community). Our boys played a lot!
Saturday I woke up bright & early and went over to Mary's house. We rode over to the USNWC together with our pups for the 5K. She is registered for the Bridge Run so she wanted to use this race as a training. She did so well!!

We got there around 8:30 and set up blankets right on the water. It was a GORGEOUS morning! I was in shorts & a t-shirt at 8AM.
Kristen & I stayed behind with 4 dogs while our friends ran.

 Here's Beckett, Alexa's dog
Post-Race!
Here's Landon in a dress. He lost a bet.
(sorry I'm not sorry I'm posting this)
11:30 AM with a tall boy in hand? Yes please. Erin Go Bragh
By noon it was getting pretty crowded! It was also about 70 out and kinda windy but it was just gorgeous!
 Bowser was in heaven
Our neighbor Eric with Bowser
At 1:00 on the nose they dyed the water green. I thought it was going to be a dark green but it was ELECTRIC green!
Some of the staff came out when it was turning. It was great being front row to it!
Meredith & her sweet dog Riley
 Me & my best boy
 Riley stole my cool glasses
Doesn't it look like Mountain Dew or something?
After a big day, we all headed home and took naps to rest up for that night. Bowser & I are making our way through Vampire Diaries. We're already on Season 2 (guilty!)

I made some Slow Cooker Spinach Dip (outta control, y'all) and headed over to Kristen & Bryan's for their St. Patty's day party. We started off the night with a round of cards: @$$hole. President gets to wear the cool glasses, natch.
Alexa showed off this App that moved lips when you talked. It was hilarious!
 President changing hands!
Kristen made these awesome layered Irish Flag Jell-o Shots. She's crazy talented at things like this!
Eric brought some MD 2020. Sad Dog.
And of course there were Car Bombs!
And I found these on my phone the next morning. Bathroom Selfies! Loved my little headband

It was quite an evening. Lots of fun!! I "snuck" away around 1:30 (though everyone said they saw me leave, I'm a bad ninja). Luckily I live 3 blocks from their house so it was a nice night to walk!

The next morning afternoon, I met up with people at Flying Biscuit for breakfast. There were tons of people there and I got there late so I ended up having to get my food to go. Womp Womp. Luckily the biscuit redeemed the whole experience!

I then ran some errands (super secret wedding stuff!) and went home to change and pick up Bowser. We headed over to Meredith's boyfriend's townhouse in South End to sit out on his rooftop patio. Bowser was already lounging before we even got there!
It was a gorgeous afternoon, I'm so glad I was outside for most of it!

When we got back, we were kinda tired. We watched more Vampire Diaries waiting for Connor/Papa to come home. His flight got in at 7:30
We got take-out from 88 China Bistro (the best Chinese place we've found...everything's super fresh!) and were in bed by 9.

Here's a sneak peek at Connor's Bachelor festivities. Silly shirt courtesy of Wal-Mart and I sent them those glasses!

Hope y'all had a great weekend!
